Throwing a Halloween Party at your casa is always a fun thing, but when you find out after moving into your neighborhood that your neighborhood is known around town as "Halloween Street", it suddenly becomes of great importance that you throw a Halloween bash for all your friends to out-ghost and out-ghoul each other in a costume contest.
Throw in some fall-themed punch and appetizers and you’ve got half the equation. The other half of course is the decorating. But that’s the fun part. Throwing yourself a Halloween party this year? Check it out and maybe you'll discover some ideas and tips for your own trickery.

When planning that perfect ghoulish affair, don't shy away from some good ole' DIY. Painted pumpkins, some candles in glass bottles, and a friendly skeletal welcome made for a hair-raising entrance.
Perhaps my favorite part is the Pottery Barn lookalike crows I made to go around my front door. Who wants to spend $50+ when you can take some foam paper and achieve the same look. (Just don't look too close).
If you want to do something similar, it was quite simple. For these crows, I went to potterybarn.com and zoomed in on the picture of the metal crows they were selling and took a pencil and sketched replicas on the foam paper. I then carefully cut them out making sure not to accidentally cut off any beaks or feathers lest they not look real. Because who doesn't have real crows hanging out by their front door?!

Venturing on into the house, I was going for a spooky yet somewhat classic scene here.
For the candle centerpiece in the middle of the coffee table, I simply bunched up a white sheet and placed candles cut at various heights into the bottles. I hadn't planned on lighting these simply for safety reasons but partially into the night, we decided to light them and to everyone's amusement, these candles burned clean without any wax dripping. Apparently candle making has come a long way. For the record, they're from Walmart.

For the mantle, I embraced my inner Alfred Hitchcock with some creepy bat/birds (I guess they were technically bats but hey) that I, similar to the crows, sketched and cut out in all different sizes. I liked the way they flew off the mirror for an added spook.

Watching over the food table was a large black bat that swooped down when someone was double-dipping in the salsa jk jk but there was an inflated bat that fit perfectly on the large blank wall. On the actual table I had the cutest cutlery, plates, etc. that I'd acquired over the past year between Target and my favorite, Sweet Lulu.

Can't forget the punch! I had every intention of experimenting with oodles of flavors to come up with the perfect concoction but ran out of time so instead went with a slightly modified version of this one from Dixie Crystals. It was delicious. It had several kinds of juices, vodka, and ginger ale for some carbonation.
There were a couple other pockets of decorations around the house that helped to create the overall effect.

It's amazing how a few decorations and crafting can transform your space into a spooky good time. Check out those after-Halloween sales for some crazy savings at places like Michaels, World Market, and JoAnn's.
